Qatar sits to the south-east of Bahrain and to the north-west of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and shares its western border with Saudi Arabia. This country which looks out onto the Arabian Gulf is highly sophisticated and is renowned for its skyscrapers. It was once one of the poorest states in the Gulf region, but that is no longer the case; in fact, it’s one of the richest in the region now.

Doha

The capital of Qatar, Doha is situated halfway down the east coast of the peninsula. It is an important cultural and commercial centre and enjoys excellent communications with the outside world through its modern seaport, airport, and telephone links.

Things to do in Doha

Explore the natural environment, take a desert safari, relax at the many beaches and pool facilities, or enjoy your favourite sport whether it is golf, billiards, snooker, bowling, tennis, squash or other sports.
Souk Waqif

This ancient outdoor market has been operating for centuries. Particular specialities on this souk are traditional garments, spices and handicrafts. There are also plenty of opportunities to buy a souvenir here. The souk isn’t just somewhere you can shop, however. There are lots of places to get something to eat, or you can relax in one of the shisha lounges in the souk.

The Corniche

The Corniche is Doha’s attractive waterfront promenade. This is truly the go-to place in the city for a pleasant walk in the afternoon or evening. The Corniche is also near some of the cultural attractions in the city, such as the Museum of Islamic Art. Incidentally, at the water’s edge near this museum you can soak up one of the best views in Qatar. Look across the water and you’ll see the skyscrapers of West Bay.

The Museum of Islamic Art

The Museum of Islamic Art is a flagship museum in Qatar. The architecture of this five-storey building draws a great deal of its inspiration from ancient Islamic architecture, and the building itself was designed by the prize-winning architect I.M.Pei. Collections include glass, ceramics, metalwork, manuscripts and more.

Sports facilities in Doha

Doha has a host of sports facilities. You can practise your putting down at the Doha Golf Club, which offers courses for golfers of all levels. Meanwhile, the Khalifa International Tennis and Squash complex is the place to work up a sweat, racket in hand. The Losail Circuit Sports Club, on the other hand, should be your destination when you feel a need for speed, since the club features a motor racing track which is also suitable for cycling and motocross.

Business in Doha

Doha offers substantial business opportunities, thanks to the creation of the Qatar Science and Technology Park. This free zone is a business park with offices and facilities for tech startups and other technology businesses. Business operation in the zone comes with a range of perks such as tax benefits.
