Rotana announces the signing of a management agreement for a new milestone property in Homs during GIBTM
United Arab Emirates, 8th April 2008 - Gardenia Real Estate Investment and Rotana, the leading Hotel Management Company in the Middle East, announced the signing of a partnership agreement for the management of a 5 star Hotel in Homs, Syria.
The event attended by local and regional media executives, highlighted Gardenia Real Estate Investments’ vision to expand beyond the local markets, in search of strategic regional investment opportunities. Gardenia’s quest for excellence made its decision to partner with Rotana, a natural selection.
Commenting on this announcement, Mr. Mohammad Al Mortada Al Dandashi, Chairman, Gardenia Real Estate Investment expressed confidence and excitement in the new formed partnership saying that “The prospects of the Homs project will also benefit the people of Syria through the creation of hundreds of jobs. Gardenia Real Estate Investments is enthusiastic about developments in Homs and keen on taking an active role in shaping the outlook of tourism and helping rebuild a strong and solid economy in Damascus”.
The 5 star Gardenia Rotana will feature 285 rooms and suites, restaurants, meeting facilities and complete recreational areas including Bodylines health and fitness club and a swimming pool. The hotel is located at the Northwestern section of the city of Homs and is strategically situated on a hill overlooking the green fields and the old city of Homs.
Known for its major tourist attractions and historical sites, Homs is the largest in Syria (43,630 sq.km.). Its central location and size made it the third governorate in agriculture, trade and industry. Homs is distinguished from other Syrian governorates in its important strategic location. It is in the middle of Syria, on a hill of approximately 508m height above sea level. Homs is the only natural gateway from the Mediterranean coast to the interior.

This announcement took place during an official signing ceremony at the Rotana stand during GIBTM, which is the premier three-day exhibition for the global meetings and incentives (MICE) industry in Abu Dhabi.
Commenting on Rotana’s participation at GIBTM, Mr. Nasser Al Nowais, Chairman of Rotana said: “we are indeed very pleased with Abu Dhabi hosting an important exhibition such as GIBTM, which will hugely assist in the overall tourism development taking place. Abu Dhabi has all the infrastructure, will and resources to develop the MICE tourism”.
Rotana participated amongst over 190 international exhibitors representing the Gulf/Middle East region and from the key Asian, Mediterranean and European markets. GIBTM hosted over a 1000 local and international visitors in addition to 250 hosted buyers.
Rotana currently manages a portfolio of 62 properties. The inventory of the Hotel rooms to be managed by Rotana in Abu Dhabi will be increased to 1000 within the coming year with the opening of Khalidiya Rotana and Park Rotana. This is in addition to the properties under development in Saadiyat Island and Capital Center.
In addition Rotana has recently signed a management agreement with ALDAR Properties PJSC, Abu Dhabi’s largest integrated real estate company, to develop four hotels, a 300-room Rotana Hotel on Yas Island, with an expected opening date of 2009; a 250-room Centro by Rotana with an expected opening date of 2009; a 250-room 5 star Rotana Hotel in Al Seef precinct of the Al Raha Beach development, with an expected opening date of 2012; and a 165-unit serviced apartment property in Abu Dhabi.
These agreements with ALDAR are a great opportunity for us to deepen our well-established base in the Emirate and to partner with a leading Abu Dhabi based developer. The new Rotana properties will compliment our existing operations and will give us a representation on some of the most exciting developments in the region. The tie-up with ALDAR represents a great achievement not just for the two companies but for Abu Dhabi as well.
Earlier this year, National Investment Corporation, the prominent National holding group and Rotana, announced the signing of a partnership agreement for the management of a 600 room luxury property in Marina Abu Dhabi. The property will be located on the breakwater island development, overlooking the famed Abu Dhabi Corniche.
